The Jerusalem Tavern, in Clerkenwell, London, has been declared a TV-free zone for the duration of the World Cup to offer a chance to get away from the footy.

Jerusalem TavernWhereas some pubs will be pulling out all the stops to entice football-related trade during the month-long tournament. The JT is going against the grain and banning football coverage in the pub throughout the World Cup.

General manager, Daniel Lucas, said: “The JT is a small but busy pub with a very loyal following, and we feel that the World Cup just isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. We want to give punters the chance to get away from the football craziness and relax in a nice, comfortable atmosphere that has a unique atmosphere any time of the day.”

Run by Suffolk-based St Peter’s Brewery, The JT is popular with workers and locals alike all year round.

Daniel added: “I’ve worked for pub companies which invested thousands in new TVs in previous years, only for everyone to lose interest as soon as England were eliminated. That’s not what we’re about at The JT.”

Punters will instead be able to enjoy a football-free environment while treating themselves to a great pint of beer from the award-winning St Peter’s Brewery. For non-drinkers, St Peter’s Without Original is available on tap.
