The weekly Hop Forward Podcast, dedicated to the global brewing industry and beer business, has released its 100th episode, More Monk Than Punk.

Hop Forward’s Nick Law talks to Russell Bisset, founder of Leeds’ Northern Monk brewery, about the business and the future of the hospitality sector. They discuss Northern Monk’s humble beginnings, the Patrons Project, the impact of covid-19 on the business, and how Nick was ghosted by BrewDog.

“The plan was always to take a little break after Christmas and relaunch in the New Year,” says host and founder Nick. “However, the mental exhaustion of being plunged into a further lockdown in winter — coupled with the daily pressures of juggling homeschool while managing the various projects the company is involved in — meant that I couldn’t find the energy to speak into the microphone. I just felt done for.

“It was only when Russell from Northern Monk contacted me out of the blue saying he’d very much like to be a part of the show that I found the impetus to kick start the second season again.”

The new season includes episodes with brewers and supply chain businesses including Neptune Brewery, CAMRA’s Nick Boley talking about pubs and the pandemic, Deya Brewing, marketing expert Julie Rhodes from Not Your Hobby Marketing, and East Meets West with Vocation and Gwelio Beer UK.
