Hawkshead Brewery has won a record five gold, two silver and two bronze awards at SIBA’s North West Independent Beer Awards.

These included awards for overall champion of both bottled beers and cask beers — the first
time in England both awards have been won by the same brewery.

Windermere Pale won gold in its category and was judged overall champion cask beer. Brodie’s Prime Export won gold in its category and was named champion bottled beer.

Lager won gold in the bottled premium lagers and Pilsners, NZPA and Tiramisu both took silver, in their respective categories, Sundown and Chuckleberry Sour took bronze in their categories.

Head brewer, Matt Clarke, said: “I’m massively proud of what we achieve as a team, and gaining awards like these only add to our drive to push forward and keep brewing better and better beer.”

Some 250 bottled beers and 200 cask beers from North West breweries were judged in the competition. The gold award winning beers now progress through to the national awards, which will take place in March 2018.
