Bermondsey-based cider maker Hawkes has set up a YouTube TV channel in the wake of the temporary closure of its busy taproom.

In order to continue their work, educating the masses about cider varieties and the production process, Hawkes’ founder, Simon Wright, and his team are taking to the web.

All viewers need to do is visit www.wearehawkes.com and look at the tasting schedule. Order the correct ciders for next day delivery, and log on at the correct time for the accompanying tutored tasting.

The tastings will be hosted by Simon himself, along with other members of the cider-making team, and will cover subjects as wide ranging as:

  • How to make your own cider at home
  • A virtul tour of the Hawkes cidery
  • Tastings of the core Hawkes range
  • Competitive tastings with a local brewery
  • A tasting of Hawkes’ new Discovery cider
  • ‘East Country’ vs West Country ciders

Filming begins this week and all programmes are scheduled to kick off on 2nd April.

Simon said: “A big part of our business — our taproom — has closed overnight. We thought long and hard about creative ways in which we could keep the cider spirit alive for our community, especially at a time where people may have a little more time on their hands than usual.

“Hawkes TV is going to be educational, but mainly a lot of fun — both to make and to watch. We really hope people take to it in the same way they’ve come to love our cider and our taproom.”
