Goose Island Beer Co has announced details of, and a release date for, the 2020 edition of its iconic Bourbon County Brand Stout.

Coming soon: the 2020 edition of Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout

The beer — coming in at 14.6% ABV — will be released in the UK at the Goose Island Brewpub, Shoreditch, on Thursday, 11th December.

It has been aged for a year in a mix of bourbon barrels from whiskey distilleries including Buffalo Trace, Heaven Hill Distillery, and Wild Turkey. Original Bourbon County Stout boasts a unique blend of flavors, such as fudge, vanilla and caramel, topped off with a rich, complex mouthfeel, says the brewer.

The unique profile of Bourbon County Brand Stout is attributed to two factors: the barrels and the ageing process. Each year, the Goose Island Chicago Brewery receives a different mix of freshly disposed of Bourbon barrels directly from distillery partners. The stout then takes on varied flavour profiles as dictated to by Chicago’s climate — the hot summers force the liquid to expand deeper into the barrel, while the cold winters contract the beer out of the staves, bringing all the barrel has to offer with it.

Fans are encouraged to book an allocated time slot here to collect their bottles from The Goose Island Brewpub on 11th December. Customers can choose from two allocated time slots (10am to noon, and 4pm to 6pm). A complimentary Bourbon County Stout themed burger from Nanny Bill’s will also be available, along with exclusive merchandise offers.

Andrew Walton, head brewer at the Goose Island Brewpub, said: “The release of Bourbon County Stout is an exciting time for us at the brewpub. I love exploring the flavours and subtle changes each new vintage brings.

“This year is extra special for us because we are releasing our own bourbon barrel-aged barley wine alongside Bourbon County Stout. To contribute to Goose Island’s pioneering legacy in barrel-aged beers is incredibly exciting for the team at the London Brewpub.”

The barely wine, brewed in-house by Andrew Walton, has been aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels, and aims to showcase the best of British brewing ingredients. This will be available to purchase from brewpub from 4th December.
