Gabe Cook — AKA The Ciderologist — has been named as cider ambassador for national cider and pizza restaurant chain The Stable. Gabe and The Stable have been working closely together for more than a year.
Having worked tirelessly and passionately with cider for a number of years, Gabe’s knowledge of the drink is second to none, says The Stabe, with worldwide experience ranging from time as a cider maker, to cider communications manager for Heineken UK and now cider expert on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch.
One of Gabe’s first responsibilities in his new role was to write the level two exams for The Stable’s Cider Masters. The Stable has 23 Cider Masters across the business’s 17 sites. They are experts on all things cider and provide advice, food pairings and tasting notes for the restaurants’ diners. The Cider Masters programme is unique to The Stable, with no other group or chain offering anything like it.
On the traditional day of Wassail, January 17, 20 Cider Masters sat the challenging level two exam. It was extremely thorough and took months of preparation and revision. And the exams don’t stop there for the Cider Masters — there are even bigger challenges ahead.
David Gough, managing director of The Stable, said: “Our Cider Masters are a credit to the business. At a time where consumers are interested in the drinks they’re ordering, it’s never been more important to make sure our teams have great product knowledge.
“These guys have taken that interest and dedication to the next level — it’s been great watching them grow and develop their skills. I know the recent exam was tough, but hard work pays off and I’m very proud of them all.”
