The Driftwood Spars, in St Agnes, Cornwall, is supporting live music with the return of Sunday sessions. These will run throughout the summer.

Driftwood music

The brewpub, just metres from Trevaunance Cove, will host the music in its recently revamped Cliffside Garden. Guests can enjoy ocean views while listening to performances including sea shanties, acoustic sets, folk music, and melodious rock.

“It’s always been part of what we offer here, and I didn’t want to take the easy route and decide not to bother,” said landlady Louise Treseder. “Logistically, it’s slightly more difficult as we are very careful about social distancing and keeping everyone safe here at the Driftwood, but it’s 100 per cent worth it.”

“Pubs and breweries have been hit hard by the pandemic, and so have musicians and the entire events industry. As things start to open up again we need to support each other, and so we created the Sunday Sessions to run throughout the summer and give us all a boost.”

The first Session takes place on 23rd May when Tim Ashton and Athene Roberts from 3 Daft Monkeys bring their world music-influenced acoustic music to the Cornish coast; expect a quirky and original approach with infectious dancing rhythms.

Cask is back

Louise and her team are also encouraging music lovers to get behind the Cask Is Back campaign (a cross-industry initiative from brewing organisations using the hashtag #CaskIsBack). During their visit they’re encouraged to support breweries by drinking cask ale.

She said: “Just like live music, enjoying cask beer was an impossibility during lockdown. Many breweries have got through by the skin of their teeth by selling bottles and focusing on online sales. But cask beer production is historically important and a huge part of our brewing heritage here in Britain.”

Each Sunday Session starts at 3.30pm and runs until 5.30pm, weather permitting. They take place in the Cliffside Garden, which has its own bar and a take-away food service from the pub. Table booking is advisable as space is limited, and for the time being customers must remain seated.
