Dartmoor Brewery managing director, Richard Smith, with three of the Row for the Ocean team

Dartmoor Brewery has signed a sponsorship deal with Exeter-based Row for the Ocean — a team of four women who are aiming to complete the world’s toughest rowing race this December, travelling 3,000 miles across the Atlantic.

In addition to their bid to complete the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2018, the team are also aiming to raise £50,000 to support the educational work of Surfers Against Sewage, to empower a new generation of ocean guardians.

With a planned legacy through Plastic Free Exeter, a campaign which aims to make Exeter the largest accredited plastic-free city in the UK by 2020, the team’s funding efforts are firmly backing the campaign to remove unnecessary plastic from the waste stream and the world’s oceans.

Speaking at the launch of the sponsorship deal, at the Devon County Show, Richard Smith, managing director of Dartmoor Brewery, said: “Our beers enjoy a firm association with the natural environment of Dartmoor, and the active pursuits which the area offers in abundance.

“When Row for the Ocean asked us to partner with them, the fit was so obvious in terms of reflecting our passion for the environment on an international platform, and helping in a small way towards the campaign to reduce the prevalence of plastics in our oceans.”

Row for the Ocean team member, Kirsty Barker, said: “We’re absolutely stoked to have Dartmoor Brewery backing our project. Being from Exeter I love having the opportunity to sit out on the Quay after work and enjoy an ale with friends, so to have their support and opportunity to promote Dartmoor Legend through our challenge is fantastic!”
