Adrian Oliver, from The Kernow Sausage Company, has been crowned winner of Fuller’s Great Sausage Roll Off 2019, staged in London this week.

Competing at the Red Lion, Barnes, Adrian took the title with his sausage roll of Cornish pork, bacon and sage, with mustard mayo.

Hosted by beer and food writer Melissa Cole, 15 chefs from across the country competed in front of a panel of expert judges: Simon Rimmer (Sunday Brunch), Andrew Clarke (Brunswick House), Calum Franklin (Holborn Dining Room) and Jane Devonshire (2016 MasterChef winner).

Second place went to Charlie Hodson, from Charlie’s Norfolk Food Heroes and The Art Of butchery. His sausage roll was called To Be Frank and was made from pork meat from four independent Norfolk butchers, withd a hint of juniper.

Phil Harrison, chef and owner at Bears Ice Cream Company, came third with The Dirty Mexican.

As well as the plate for the judges, each competitor supplied samples of their entries, which were auctioned off to a hungry crowd in aid of Hospitality Action.

Combined with a range of other fantastic auction items, the event raised nearly £2,000 for the charity that offers vital assistance to all who work for, or have worked within hospitality in the UK, and who find themselves in crisis.
