Butcombe Brewing Company has purchased the Castle Inn, West Lulworth, marking its first foray into Dorset with its estate.

The Castle Inn is a traditional, 16th century, thatched pub and boutique hotel near Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, on the Jurassic coastline. It will be a flagship site within Butcombe’s South West portfolio of pubs.

Renowned for its large selection of traditional ciders, including Butcombe’s Ashton Press, it was national CAMRA cider and perry pub of the year in 2014. The Castle Inn has also gained recognition as East Dorset CAMRA’s rural pub of the year in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

Outside of the quality food and drink offering, The Castle Inn is a firm favourite with ramblers and dog owners, being perfectly situated for walks along the scenic South West Coast Path.

The pub will be part of a 35-strong estate in the South West. Butcombe bought the pub from the Halliday family for an undisclosed sum.

Jayson Perfect, pubs and inns managing director at Butcombe Brewing Co, said: “The Castle Inn will be a flagship pub for us in Dorset as we expand further into the South West. We’re delighted to have brought such a high-quality pub to strengthen our Butcombe estate and look forward to welcoming the strong following this outlet has into the Butcombe fold.”
