Mine Brewing Co

APA (4.5% ABV, bottle)
Nicely balanced and very moreish, this pours a hazy deep golden with a white head that stays well. There’s a big aroma, which suggests dry hopping, offering stone fruit and light bready malt — very inviting. On the palate, there’s that stone fruit, grapefruit, lychee, and a backbone of robust, biscuty malt, with light caramel. There’s a nice dryness on the finish.
Buy: Mine beers are often on draught at the Pilchard Press Alehouse, St Ives.

Mine Brewing APA

Bitter (3.7% ABV, draught)
A cracking session bitter, this, a modern interpretation of a traditional West Country bitter. Lovely caramel from the malt, and beautiful berry notes. Good bitter finish.
Buy it: I had mine (Mine) on draught at the Pilchard Press Alehouse, St Ives.

Mine Bitter

Consols (3.7% ABV, cask)
Amber with a white head, this is a terrific session bitter. Polished and clear, it balances bready malt and light caramel sweetness with red berry notes. There’s gentle bitterness on the finish.

Mine Consols

Cousin Jack (3.7% ABV, cask)
Hazy golden with big grapefruit citrus notes, and hints of stone fruit. Nice body for a low ABV brew, with a good bitter finish.

In Vein (4.6% ABV, bottle)
Absolutely black, with a beige head that dies down fairly quickly. On the nose, it smells aged, slightly woody, with hints of coffee. On the palate, it’s a little smokey with a vanilla note at the back and flavours of Bourneville chocolate to the fore. There’s a prune sweetness, roo. A lovely drop that tastes stronger than it is.

Mine In Vein

Mine’s Best (4.6% ABV, cask)
Deep amber and crstal clear, this is a very attractive looking best bitter. Bready malt and caramel sweetness, with just a hint of chocolate coming through. There’s a lovely berry richness there, too. Dangerously moreish!

Obsidian (7.7% ABV)
Pours jet black with a very insistent beige head thatstays very well. On the aroma, molasses, treacle, and a hint of woodiness. On the palate, as one might expect, it’s very full, rich, and smooth. There’s a lovely warmth, treacle sweetness, a coffee liqueur note, and wood. A gentle bitterness adds moreishness, which could be dangerous. A delightful drop!

MOne Obsidian

Stout (5.1% ABV, bottle)
An absolutely gorgeous stout — disappointed I only had one bottle (given to me). It pours very dark, with the vaguest tinge of red right at the edge of the glass. There’s a thick, foaming, beige head, but not so dense that an aroma of rich chocolate, nuts, and espresso coffee can’t burst through. On the palate, ooh, so rich, and with a voluptuously smooth body. There’s coffee, chocolate, a woody note, creaminess, and a hint of black cherry.
