Bath Christmas Sulis

Bath Ales gave away more than 200 bottles of its Sulis Christmas beer when it took a pop-up lodge at the heart of Bath’s Christmas Market.

Limited edition Christmas Sulis is a Bock-style lager at 5.6% ABV, a warming festive beer, sweet with hints
of biscuit, flapjack and honey. To help get everyone even further into the festive spirit, free Christmas hats were also given out across Bath city centre in the lead up to the beer’s launch.

This year’s lodge at Bath Christmas Market is being run in association with Framptons, the team behind the city’s acclaimed bar and restaurant. As well as a well-stocked bar, with Bath Ales’ award-winning beers, there is mulled wine and cider and a food offering.

Darren James, senior brewer at Bath Ales, said: “Having brewed this beer it was great fun to join in the celebrations and make a toast to Christmas Sulis on the Christmas Market locals’ night.

“For the launch of Christmas Sulis, we drew inspiration from the famous J-Day celebrations in Denmark, when an annual festive brew is launched with much anticipation and celebration. We’ve put our own Bath twist on our version, which is inspired by Aqua Sulis, the old Roman name of the city.”

He added: “We don’t expect the beer to stay around for long so get it while you can — when it’s gone, it’s gone. We hope to make Sulis Christmas an annual brew and an annual celebration event.”

Christmas Sulis is available in 330ml bottles. The limited edition beer is available from the lodge and Bath Ales’ retail stand at the Christmas market for £3 per bottle. The beer is also available at select pubs and restaurants across Bath, Bath Ales’ online shop and at its brewery shop in Warmley.
