Pub chain Barworks is celebrating its expanding range of quality alcohol-free drinks with the UK’s first ever Mindful Tavern Takeover. The event is a collaboration between Big Drop Brewing Co, Barworks, mindful drinking festival organisers Club Soda, and daytime ravers Morning Gloryville.

Barworks now stocks Big Drop’s award-winning beers at its 13 venues across London, which helps them get a five-star entry into Club Soda Guide — the pub guide for mindful drinkers.
The latest in a series of Mindful Pub Crawls, this Club Soda Takeover provides an opportunity for regulars to try the range of 0.5% ABV Big Drop beers, as well as some of the wider selection of low- and no-alcohol drinks stocked by Barworks, which includes local craft sodas and kombucha.
The takeover is at the Commercial Tavern, a Barworks venue on Commercial Street in Shoreditch, between 6.30pm and 9.30pm tomorrow (May 1).
Lee Godwin, operations manager at Barworks, said: “Barworks has worked hard to source a selection of great tasting drinks for a growing number of our customers who choose not to drink alcohol.
“Big Drop provides an excellent selection of interesting beers with full flavour characteristics that complement the rest of our range, and they proved to be the final piece of the jigsaw in our low-alcohol drinks range. They’ve been popular from the moment they went in our fridges, and it’s a bonus that this has helped to secure our five-star status in the Club Soda Guide.”
The guide highlights great pubs, bars and restaurants around the country, and is set to be expanded this year.
Laura Willoughby, co-founder of Club Soda, said: “Mindful drinking is the growing trend. Whether cutting down, going alcohol-free, driving, or just wanting to get to the gym the next morning, customers are no longer willing to compromise on taste and choice when they go to the pub and want something with a lower ABV.
“It’s a pleasure to be able to add Barworks venues to the Club Soda Guide, helping our 16,000 members to plan their nights out. Not only is Big Drop a wonderful addition to their drinks menu, but it marks their range of low-alcohol drinks as exceptional, earning the highest ranking in the guide.”
Big Drop Brewing founder, Rob Fink, said: “More bar owners are taking notice of the opportunity that our 0.5% ABV beers offer them, and gaining a listing in a group with such a solid reputation for craft beer as Barworks is a big step forward for the category.
“This event will not only celebrate the relationships between ourselves, Barworks and Club Soda but, most importantly, gives us the chance to talk to consumers and listen to their opinions about the beers and what’s important to them. It might even help shape our seasonal range for the next year.”
