Padstow Brewing Company has been celebrating a national award and the launch of two highly-anticipated collaborations.

The company’s smoked oatmeal porter, The Smoke, took gold in the keg dark beers class (4.5% to 6.4% ABV) at SIBA’s Independent Beer Awards. The dark and deep stout is a complex beer witha subtle smokey aftertaste from its beech-smoked malt.

Brewer, George Collins, said: “To win this national award is a fantastic achievement for all of us. The Smoke is one of our favourite beers here at Padstow Brewing Company. It uses a recipe that we have been carefully developing over the last two years, and to see it winning awards at this level feels like a real achievement.”

Meanwhile, this week sees the launch of two collaboration beers. Hazy Shade of Winter, brewed with Errant Brewing Company, is a big, juicy double IPA, coming in at 8.3% ABV and combining five US hops for powerful flavours. It has been tank conditioned for two weeks for a full, crisp flavour.

The second new release is Celestial Boardwalk, brewed in collaboration with Dig Brew Co. This 6.2% ABV West Coast-style IPA has a deep golden colour and combines spicy yeast flavours and big hop aromas.

Both cans are limited release and have been designed in partnership with Falmouth University. Combining great beer with great art, Celestial Boardwalk features the piece Shades of Sun, by Clara Jones from the university, while Hazy Shades of Winter has a design by Phoebe Roberts.
