London-based Small Beer Brew Co has been certified as B Corporation, an international accreditation that recognises commitment to a more sustainable and responsible way of doing business.
Joining a global community of more than 2,500 other Certified B Corps, including All Birds, Patagonia and Innocent, they unite in one goal — to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy, and redefine success in business.
Since the day Small Beer opened its brewery doors in 2017, there was a vision to develop a dynamic and spirited enterprise, recognised for producing a range of beers with world-class taste at a sociable strength, and with an ethos of sustainability.
Co-founder, James Grundy, said: “As a brewery we have always done things a little differently — as well as making great tasting beer, we’ve ensured everything we do is done in a considerate way that future-proofs our business and the environment.
“We are very proud that our philosophy has been acknowledged by B Corp. We worked for it because it’s the way we want to do business.”
The Small Beer Brewery runs on renewable energy and all packaging uses recycled and recyclable material. It is the only UK brewery known to champion a ‘dry floor’ policy, conceived by co-founder Felix’s re-working of the brewing process in order to significantly reduce the amount of water needed to brew.
In the last 18 months the company has saved 1.4 million litres of water. “Our focus on efficiency and innovation makes us much stronger as a business and more valuable to our community. We want Small Beer to be around and relevant in ten years, and with burgeoning pressures on our climate we need to evolve and adapt with the times.”
