Limited supplies of the 2021 vintage of Goose Island’s iconic Bourbon County Stout have been rolled out to a number of Mitchells & Butlers pubs.
The beer dates from 1992 when Goose Island’s brewmaster wanted to brew something truly unique for the brewpub’s 1,000th batch. A chance encounter between the brewmaster and Jim Beam’s sixth generation master distiller, Booker Noe, led to Goose Island acquiring the barrels for what was to become the world’s first bourbon barrel-aged beer.
For 30 years since, yearly vintages have been released, striving to honour the original recipe, alongside other groundbreaking and innovative variants.
In addition to Bourbon County Stout, the Mitchells & Butlers residency will also welcome back Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat Ale for a limited time, alongside regular favourite Today’s Haze.
“Bottles of Bourbon County Stout are some of the most sought-after beers anywhere in the world, and the UK is no exception,” said Goose Island spokesperson Doug Fitzgerald. “To offer this iconic beer in so many pubs across the country is an exciting moment for us in the UK and we can’t wait to share it with beer lovers across the country.
“In the years since the first batch of Bourbon County Stout was brewed, the folklore surrounding the beer has grown to the point of mythical status, and there are many Brits that look forward to the vintage every year.”
