Lightweight, sustainable containers helped Staggeringly Good put on an excellent beer festival aboard an historic warship.

Warriorfest 2022

Southsea-based, dinosaur-themed Staggeringly Good Brewery holds Warriorfest annually aboard HMS Warrior, which dates back to 1860. The vessel was Britain first iron-hulled battleship and is found in Portsmouth’s dockyard.

The Staggeringly Good team used steel kegs at the first WarriorFest in 2017, but found it too strenuous. Loading more than 200 steel containers filled with beer, while negotiating HMS Warrior’s 160-year-old gangways and steep steps, was exhausting. By subsequently switching to lightweight, sustainable KeyKeg, the brewery faced less of a challenge.

KeyKegs require no heavy lifting equipment, trollies, hand trucks, or carts, and their ergonomic design allows safe, effortless handling. It is also possible to transport 35% more beer per truckload with KeyKeg than with steel, meaning fewer journeys and a smaller carbon footprint.

Sustainability is the main driving force at Staggeringly Good and WarriorFest. The brewery promotes a cleaner, healthier environment by using KeyKegs for its events, UK distribution, and export to Asia, Scandinavia, and Europe — a sustainable choice that keeps its beer as fresh as the day it was produced.

Staggeringly Good also plays a role in helping to recycle empty KeyKegs that may otherwise end up as landfill. The team collect empty KeyKegs for recycling from both WarriorFest and its popular Southsea taproom, yet it aims to gather many more from across the region.

Hospitality professionals in Dorset, Hampshire, West Sussex, and Surrey can now drop off their empty KeyKegs at Staggeringly Good in Southsea. The amount of recycled material in each new KeyKeg will steadily increase as more empty kegs are collected.
