Sea Fog is rolling in — a fresh, unfiltered, hazy coastal IPA from Adnams, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

To mark the anniversary, members of Adnams’ brewing and quality teams were challenged to suggest potential recipes for a special summer seasonal. These were then put to a public vote.

Sea Fog stormed to the top of the poll, giving brewer, Sam, the chance to see his beer on shelves and in bars in the brewery’s anniversary year.

Sam wanted Sea Fog to be unfiltered, to retain that fresh hop flavour, making it slightly hazy. It is named after the coastal fog that appears in Southwold, when the warm summer air is cooled by the sea.

A blend of UK and US hops create aromas and flavours of citrus and tropical fruit, plus a hint of spice, and a medium bitterness. This is balanced by multiple varieties of East Anglian malts and their nutty and honeyed characteristics. Brewing with a mixed yeast culture gets the best out of this blend and gives an added burst of fruit on the finish.

“Sea Fog is great with spicy tacos or chilli fries, or simply sipped on a warm summer’s day,” says the brewer.
