Having launched his own Hawkstone lager, Jeremy Clarkson is on a crusade to get a better deal for barley farmers.

Clarkson Hawkstone lager

The Top Gear star turned farmer has developed his own brand of beer in collaboration with the local Cotswold Brewing Co. The brew which is lagered for four weeks, uses barley grown on Clarkson’s own Oxfordshire farm.

But during the course of the project, he discovered the malt was worth £205 per tonne when it left him, but £580 per tonne when it was purchased by brewers.

Now Clarkson is said to be looking to get a better deal for farmers, having already held a round-table discussion between the industry and the maltsters.

Hawkstone lager is named after a standing stone on Clarkson’s farm.
