The new beer is a 3% ABV ‘small IPA’ called Sangfroid. It will support local charity Sefton Women’s and Children’s Aid (SWACA), which helps women, children, and young people affected by domestic abuse.

£1 from every pint, and 50p from each half-pint, of Sangfroid sold will be donated to SWACA. The beer will be launched at Neptune’s taproom, on Liverpool’s Sefton Lane Industrial Estate, on Saturday (2nd October) between 1pm and 9pm.

The beer was brewed by the ladies of Neptune for the Global Ladies of Wort Glow Along 2021, a project which aims to highlight female representation in the beer industry.

The Glow Along is an annual event in which breweries from across the globe are invited to a brew-along, making a beer of their choosing using a special blend of hops supplied by Yakima Chief Hops. Yakima Chief will be donating €10 from each kilogram of hops bought by each brewery to their own nominated charity, with all breweries matching that donation, meaning lots of different international charities will benefit.

Neptune Brewery co-founder, Julie O’Grady, said: “Too often, women can be stereotyped into roles. We need to move away from that. The beer industry is one of those places that is still very much male dominated. Any role is possible if you strive and work hard for it. More women are now taking up various roles in the industry which is great to see.”

Neptune’s sales and beer experience manager, Chess Slattery, picked SWACA as the brewery’s charity partner. She said: “We were committed to choosing a small charity that was local to us and had the support of women at its heart. We promote sensible drinking and wanted to use this project to raise awareness of the services SWACA offer for those impacted by domestic abuse, as well as fundraise for the charity and, together, be a great force for good.”

A spokesperson for SWACA added: “We are delighted that a local, female-led company has chosen us as their charity partner. We are united in our shared passion and determination to support women.

“The collaboration between Neptune Brewery and SWACA, and the money raised through this project, will make a positive difference to the women and children we support.”

Sangfroid will go on general sale from 6th October, available in cask, keg, and can at retailers across the country, with cans also being available to purchase directly on the Neptune webshop. All cans will sport a QR code offering drinkers a way to donate to support SWACA.
