Stockport Beer Week is back, on a mission to support pubs, bars, and breweries hard hit by the covid pandemic.
In conjunction with national Cask Ale Week, this celebration of beer and pubs runs from 23rd September until 3rd October. It is being organised by volunteers from the Stockport and South Manchester Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Some events are face to face, including a beer and food matching event with renowned beer sommelier Annabel Smith, a meet the brewer event with Thirst Class Brewery, from Reddish, and the return of the popular pub cellar tours.
If you would rather do things independently, there is a cask beer Ale Trail and a Mystery Pub competition, with beery prizes. Themed and local beers are featured in some pubs, with Stockport Brewing and Thirst Class Ales both brewing specials for the occasion.
Event organiser, Chris Walkden, said: “After starting our Beer Week seven years ago, it has developed into a well-respected event in the town centre and as a showpiece for Stockport’s pubs and breweries. Many sponsors and partners now support the Beer Week, providing facilities, events and prizes.
“We all know the social and mental health benefits of going to the pub, so the Beer Week is designed to help people get back there safely. This could be either at face-to-face get-togethers or in their own time. There are plenty of events to choose from, so please support them if you can. If we don’t use our pubs, we will lose them.”
