Verdant Brewing Co is to launch an ambitious Crowdcube campaign on November 20, to quadruple capacity and open a taproom in Falmouth.

As one of the leading craft breweries to focus on hazy New England IPAs, Verdant has struggled to meet demand over the last few years.

Currently producing around 3,000hl a year in its premises in Falmouth, expansion plans will take the business three miles down the road to a 17,500 sq ft site, with the capacity to brew up to 15,000hl.

Verdant was founded in 2014 after a chance conversation about home brewing during a five-a-side football game. Since then, the business has grown quickly, thanks to its quality core range and exciting, big New England IPAs.

The brewery has had to move twice already to keep up with demand, and recently branched out into lagers and even barrel-aged stouts, showing the ambition the directors Adam Robertson, James Heffron and Richard White have for the company.

After exploring many funding sources, the brewery settled on crowdfunding to protect its independence in a market being closely monitored by macrobreweries and large capital finance companies.

‘Really exciting rewards’

Adam said: “We need to expand, but we also need to do it right. Crowdfunding gives us the independence to make the right choices for our business and our customers, as well as letting us give something back to all the people who have supported us from day one.

“We’ve valued the company fairly and have some really exciting rewards, so we hope people get involved.”

The new site will allow the brewery to quadruple in size while offering both quality and consistency benefits, thanks to the addition of two lauter tuns and a centrifuge.

Equally exciting is the space reserved for a taproom looking over the brewery, which will make a unique place to drink the tank-fresh beers.

James said: “We have made a name for ourselves by producing delicious one-off beers time and again, but the new brewery is going to take that to a whole new level, as well as help us really dial in and grow the core range.

“We also hope the taproom will allow us to show the beers at their best, while the larger volume means we can finally fulfil all the orders we get.”
