Punch Usual Suspects

The Usual Suspects, from the Brickmakers Arms, in Coventry, won the final of Punch’s pub quiz contest, staged at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Molineux Stadium.

With high-quality pub quizzing talent on display, the final lived up to its billing with the Usual Suspects defeating last year’s winners, The Galacticos, from The Station, Killingworth.

With 24 teams in attendance, the competition was tightly fought, with a tie-breaker deciding the 2016 champions. The Usual Suspects, who are also previous winners, sportingly shared their winnings with their opponents, so they could each take home a prize fund of £1,500 each.

As winners and runners-up, both pubs will now host their own celebrity quiz night arranged and conducted by Redtooth, specialists in pub entertainment. The quiz night aims to bring the local community together for an evening of fun and laughter, while also driving footfall.

The Usual Suspects will be joined by a host of celebrity masterminds from both ITV’s The Chase and BBC’s Eggheads on November 8. On December 1, the Galacticos will be welcoming Egghead Barry Simmons to meet and greet participants as well as take part in their quiz night.

Stephen Martin, category manager at Punch, said: “We’re really pleased with how the Great British Pub Quiz has captured the imagination of our publicans and their locals. We always enjoy offering initiatives that our publicans can get involved in, which are not only fun, but will also increase footfall and therefore profits for them.”
