Team Korev surfer Lucy Campbell has kicked off the season in style, winning the English National Women’s Open Championship in challenging conditions at Perranporth.
Lucy, 22, signed a three-year sponsorship deal with St Austell Brewery’s Korev Cornish Lager in February to enable her to reach more surfing events around the globe, and increase her status and ranking among the world’s best female surfers.
She has already spent time in South Africa and Spain warming up for this year’s competitions, but winning the national title at the English Surfing event is a real statement of intent for the Woolacombe-based surfer.
Lucy said: “It got pretty tough out there towards the end of the competition, but fair play to everyone who saw it through. Winning the title is an amazing start to the season, especially in those conditions, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how far I can push myself this year, both here and in the World Surfing League competitions abroad.”
St Austell Brewery marketing and communications director, Jeremy Mitchell, said: “Lucy’s drive and commitment are a sure-fire winning recipe and we’re really thrilled that her hard work training overseas this year is already paying dividends for her.
