Orkney’s Swannay Brewery has claimed more awards for its beers, returning from the SIBA National Awards with a cask silver medal for Island Hopping.

Swannay Island HoppingDescribed as a hoppy session beer, the 3.9% ABV brew had earlier won gold in the cask standard bitters and pale ale category.

The brewery also claimed gold for its barrel-aged Orkney Porter (2014 Arran edition) in the smallpack speciality beers section.

The SIBA success marks the culmination of a busy few weeks for the Swannay Brewery. Head brewer, Rob Hill, said: “We had great success recently at the International Brewing Awards and the competition at the SIBA national event is equally as tough. We’re delighted to have taken silver overall for Island Hopping, and our Orkney Porter continues to take plaudits, too.”

He added: “This competition is judged by very talented brewers and industry experts, so that makes our medal wins even more special. They also helped make the long round-trip from Orkney to Sheffield more than worth it.”
