The Hogs Back brewing team celebrate the wins

Hogs Back Brewery is adding to its trophy cabinet after Hogstar English Craft Lager was awarded a gold medal by the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA).

Hogstar came out on top in the SIBA Independent Keg Beer Awards 2018 for the South East. The hard-fought contest was decided in a blind tasting by a panel of brewers and beer trade specialists, which pitted Hogstar against beers in a range of styles from breweries across the region. Hogstar went on to win the bronze medal in SIBA’s National Awards.

Rupert Thompson, managing director of Hogs Back Brewery, based in Tongham, near Farnham, said, “We’re delighted that SIBA’s expert judging panel has awarded Hogstar the gold medal for the South East, and bronze for the entire UK.

“It’s a real tribute to the hard work that our head brewer Miles Chesterman and the whole brewing team at Tongham devote to making high quality beers that have genuine consumer appeal.

“We’re a local, country brewer, and with so much competition from other great breweries across the whole range of beer styles, it’s wonderful to have our beers recognised as amongst the nation’s very best.”

Hogstar English Craft Lager, launched in 2013, is a 4.5% ABV lager brewed with five different hops, including English Cascade grown in the Hogs Back hop garden, and matured for over a month to allow flavours to deepen. Hogstar is available in keg, bottles and cans.
