Sharp’s Brewery is launching its own cook book, Just Add Beer, celebrating beer both as an ingredient and a pairing for a variety of recipes, created by chefs who either live and work in Cornwall, or who have strong links to the county.

Local hero and hugely successful Michelin star chef, Nathan Outlaw, has written the foreword for the book, which  will be available to purchase from the Sharp’s online shop from December.

Brimming with more than 60 mouth-watering recipes inspired by some sensational Cornish produce, Just Add Beer profiles some of the UK’s top chefs. The book also includes inspiring imagery showcasing the Cornish landscape, and top local producers and suppliers who ensure Cornwall is considered one of the UK’s top foodie hotspots.

Sharp's pizzaOrganised by occasion, it is a go-to guide for beer aficionados and foodies alike. The book showcases how versatile beer is, both in cooking and also when paired with food.

From easy-to-make snacks to a show-stopping birthday cake, hearty comfort dishes to alfresco delights, there is a recipe and beer suggestion for every palate and every ocassion.

Until relatively recently, most people’s experience of beer and food together consisted of a pie with a pint of ale, or a curry with a lager. The team at Sharp’s, however, have been doing their bit to encourage people to try a broader range of food with beer.

Sharp’s Beer Sommelier, Ed Hughes, who has appeared on the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, introduces readers to beer and food pairing at the start of the book. As well as providing useful knowledge and insight into what makes beer and food so great together, Ed includes an insight into beer styles, glassware options, brewing techniques and tasting notes.

Ed regularly performs demonstrations on beer and food matching to audiences at events around the country, and will next appear at the 11th annual Padstow Christmas Festival in December.

He said: “We are so proud of Just Add Beer and we are honoured to have worked with some of the best names in Cornish cooking for our very first cook book.

“I don’t think there is anyone else out there who is championing beer, and beer as a food match, with the calibre of chefs that we are, and the book truly reflects this. Just Add Beer will make the perfect gift for Christmas and we are so excited to be able to share it, and bring beer, food and Cornwall together perfectly.

“This book demonstrates that there is a beer for every occasion, whether you’re throwing a lavish dinner party, or an impromptu barbecue. It’s easy to navigate and totally accessible with ingredients and beers that can be found in most supermarkets or independent shops.

• Just Add Beer will be available to buy from the Sharp’s Brewery online shop at www.sharpsbrewery.co.uk from December for £18.99. A donation of £1 per book is being made to Hospitality Action. Established in 1837 Hospitality Action, the Hospitality Industry Benevolent Organisation, has offered vital assistance to all who work, or have worked within hospitality in the UK and who find themselves in crisis.
