Sharp’s Brewery is teaming up with Padstow-based Beach Guardian Community Interest Company (CIC) for a celebratory beach clean at Trevone Bay.

The event will take place on October 30 at 10am, and all are invited to come along, get involved and support the event.

The clean will last for one hour before finishing off with a pint, or half-pint, of Sharp’s Atlantic Pale Ale for anyone over 18 years of age who would like one.

Sharp’s Beach Battalion — a collaborative programme between the Army’s Outreach Team South West, Sharp’s Brewery and BeachCare — who come together to offer a dynamic beach cleaning initiative to coastal communities across the South West, will also be supporting the day’s activities.

For the fourth year running, Sharp’s Brewery has helped ensure that Cornish beaches are among the best in the world, continually stepping up to ensure the county has more iconic Blue Flags and Seaside Awards flying over the coastline than any other part of the UK.

Trevone Bay proudly holds a Blue Flag and Seaside Award and was voted Cornwall’s best award-winning beach in a public poll held by Cornwall Live earlier this year.

Beach Guardian CIC is run by father and daughter Rob and Emily Stevenson, who organise beach cleans through engaged and dedicated volunteers around the county.

In addition, this year they will have educated more than 5,000 school children, businesses and individualsto reduce the amount of unnecessary plastics and to recycle more.

On a national level, Walkers (PepsiCo) has taken on Beach Guardian’s environmental recommendations and introduced a recycling scheme for their crisp packets, starting December 2018.

Amazing community

Sharp’s Brewery is also sponsoring the provision of 25 litter pickers for Beach Guardian CIC and their volunteers so they can continue their great work of keeping the Cornish beaches clean.

Rob Stevenson said: “We have an amazing community who are proud of their achievements and this has been recognised through the Blue Flag Award at Trevone for example.

“We’re very grateful to Sharp’s Brewery for sponsoring the scheme and highlighting this work of individuals such as Richard Higman that may otherwise go unnoticed. We hope that as many as possible from the community will be able take part in this clean so we can keep Trevone Bay’s esteemed status amongst the best in the world.”

Neil Hembrow, BeachCare officer and co-ordinator of the Sharp’s Beach Battalion, said: “The Sharp’s Beach Battalion is a service that BeachCare put in place in 2016 and with the collaboration of army volunteers and the backing of Sharp’s Brewery, The Battalion takes on any job, no matter how big or small, with utter dedication.

“The beaches are benefiting, as we’ve removed over seven tonnes of litter so far; helping with a whole host of other community projects around the South West.”

James Nicholls, senior brand manager at Sharp’s Brewery, said: “With our brewery situated just a mile from the coast at Rock, our beaches and coastline are so important to us.

“It’s fantastic to support the Sharp’s Beach Battalion, who do a tremendous job of helping to keep beaches and the coast clean and accessing areas that are treacherous to reach.

“We’re looking forward to continuing our support of this and other beach clean initiatives run tirelessly by amazing volunteer groups such as the Beach Guardian CIC. A big thanks to those involved.”

• The meeting point on the day will be Trevone Bay car park at 10am. All equipment will be provided and Beach Guardian CIC will remove everything collected responsibly. It is recommended that participants wear suitable footwear and clothing.
