The Supreme Court has backed a bid by the Scottish government to introduce minimum pricing for alcohol, despite a challenge from the drinks industry.

The move was actually approved by the Scottish Parliament five years ago, but the Scottish Whisky Association claimed it was a restriction of trade.

However, the Supreme Court judges described the measure as “a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim”.

Alcohol will be priced with a 50p minimum for one unit of alcohol.
