Fast growing Leeds-based Brewology — a specialist design and manufacturing supplier to the brewing industry — has undertaken a restructuring. The moves see technical director Stephen Midgely (pictured) take up the company ownership as founding chairman, David Midgley, steps down to explore new business opportunities.

Managing director, David Grant, who has held senior management posts in the brewing industry, also joins the board of directors.

Three year-old Brewology supplies an extensive range of brewery services, from complete brewhouse turnkey solutions to software development, state-of-the-art automation, and spares. The company has invested in new plant and employees to see turnover grow substantially year on year to its current £1.6m.

The restructuring also sees a financial re-alignment, with new funding and banking support in place to sustain future growth.

Quality with innovation

During 2017, Brewology fulfilled a number of prestigious projects, including a major contract with Fuller Smith and Turner plc (Fuller’s). This supported Fuller’s investment in a state-of the-art robot packaging line at its historic Chiswick brewery, home to the famous London Pride ale. Brewology devised a fully automated cask keystone and shiving extractor machine (KSE) to streamline cleaning efficiency and achieve the handling of up to 480 casks per hour.

David Grant said: “As a young business, we are fast building a reputation for quality with innovation. This year we were especially delighted to help Fuller’s, London’s most historic but forward-thinking brewery, with their major investment.

“The brewing industry is growing apace, with some 2000 UK breweries now, and many of them need help with their development in a highly competitive environment. We can provide innovative solutions to their challenges, and in 2018 aim to grow business with both fledgling and established brewers.

“Accordingly, as our founding chairman moves on, we have now reviewed our management and financial structures to go forward in this vibrant brewing scene. We gratefully thank David Midgley for his very hard work in bringing Brewology to its present stage and we wish him every success.”
