A London pub dedicated to football team West Bromwich Albion has been saved from property developers and is enjoying a new lease of life as a community local thanks to Remarkable Pubs.

Remarkable has completed an intricate refurbishment of the pub, which now features an interior giving a nod to the Tudor splendour of nearby Sutton House, a National Trust Tudor townhouse. The Hackney venue has been re-named The Virgin Queen.

Virgin Queen HackneyFor this venture, Remarkable Pubs has teamed up with a local chippie. Not any old chippie mind you — it’s East London institution and much-loved Fish House, of Victoria Park , Hackney. The collaboration sees a combo of tip-top London brewed craft beers, some great wines and top-notch fish and chips.

Food includes cod and chips (of course), but expect to see too lobster bisque, pea, lemon, mint and feta cheese fritters, and a Fish House fish pie. Desserts include brioche bread and butter pudding with figs, marzipan and cream, and sticky toffee pudding with pecan and caramel sauce.

The Virgin Queen, on Goldsmiths Row, is equidistant between London’s food market, Broadway Market, and flower market, Columbia Road, and when both are in full swing the buzz of people in the area is seemingly busier than Oxford Street on a busy day. And dogs are welcome, too!

The interior includes a beautiful, reclaimed hand-carved wooden fireplace, quirky seating and a stunning feature bar. Dispensed from the bar are beers from local breweries, including Hackney, Beavertown and Crate, and do look out for the ‘Beers of Intrigue’ taps serving limited runs of those harder-to-find brews.

The wine list is interesting and well picked, and the opening offer price of Muscadet makes it pretty much irresistible to have when ordering fish and chips.

Remarkable Pubs managing director, Elton Mouna, said:  “The Virgin Queen pub is an intriguing Tardis of Tudorness, with a tip-top drinks list and top-notch fish and chips. I think we may just have created a bucket list pub!

“A dog-friendly pub situated perfectly in the middle of dog walking territory, and the excuse for a pit stop Hackney dog owners have been craving for.”
