Sharp's Phil Vickery

Sharp’s Brewery has chosen two-time British and Irish Lion Phil Vickery (pictured) as its Doom Bar brand ambassador ahead of this summer’s tour of New Zealand.

Doom Bar, the UK’s best-selling cask beer, is the official beer sponsor of the British and Irish Lions rugby team as it takes on the mighty All Blacks.

Phil has captained the England team and was selected to tour with the Lions to Australia in 2001 and South Africa in 2009. The Cornishman was also part of the famous England World Cup winning squad of 2003, starring in all seven matches of the tournament.

The Lions tour is arguably the most unique test series in the global sporting calendar, with thousands of dedicated rugby fans across Britain and Ireland showing their support for the prestigious tour, made up of talent from the home nations.

James Nicholls, senior brand manager at Sharp’s Brewery, said: “Bringing Phil Vickery on board our already exciting journey with The Lions was an easy decision to make. Phil’s incredible success on the rugby field is based on hard work, dedication, commitment and precision to the last drop, and these are the very same values that go into the craftsmanship of our award-winning beers.”

Phil added: “As a fellow Cornishman, and personally a huge fan of Doom Bar, I was delighted to hear that they would be sponsoring the British and Irish Lions throughout this year’s tour. Having been asked to represent Doom Bar as an ambassador for the sponsorship, I feel proud to be a part of this new journey with the Lions, which looks set to be a really exciting year.”

Phil Vickery will help promote all Doom Bar brand activations and will travel to New Zealand on behalf of Sharp’s Brewery to support the team.

The tour consists of ten matches, including a three-test match series against the All Blacks. The first tour game is scheduled to take place on June 3.
