board games championships

Northfields, London, was the battleground for some of the final stages of the Board Games Championship, a contest to find the UK’s best board gamers.

The Owl & the Pussycat micropub, on Northfields Avenue, was the venue for the penultimate event of the Board Games Championship, the media contest.

During the event, journalists and lifestyle bloggers competed to be the UK’s 2017 Board Games media champion. After a close-fought battle, over five different games, the winner of media contest was Laura Hartley (pictured) from @WhatsHotblog

The Board Games Championship is promoted by the UK’s biggest pork pie maker, Pork Farms. It works with micropubs up and down the country to stage the competition.

Laura Hartley board gamesOxford University student, lifestyle blogger and media event champion, Laura, said; “This was undoubtedly one of the most entertaining blogging events I’ve ever attended as the activities meant that we actually got to know each other a little better than you would at, say, a drinks event.

“It was so lovely to spend the afternoon battling it out over some childhood classics with the other fantastic bloggers that attended. Many thanks to Pork Farms and The Owl & Pussycat for hosting this event for us — I had a blast!

This year hundreds have competed in the heat stages and Pork Farms has now whittled those down to their top scorers who will be competing at the grand final, staged at One Inn The Wood micropub in Kent, on Saturday 24th June.  Pork Farms is also holding a Family Board Games night, where families can compete for their own title and prizes.

Michael Holton, brand manager at Pork Farms said: “Our media event at The Owl & The Pussycat micropub marks the final stages of the competition and we had a great time, with some of the competitors showing some real board gaming talent!  We are now looking forward to the grand final where we’ll find out who will be this year’s UK Board Games Champion.”
