The Liverpool-based Mad Hatter Brewing Company has ceased trading and is being placed into liquidation.

Mad Hatter Brewing CoThe business, which was launched in 2013, supplied licensed premises throughout the country and as far afield as Australia. Penny Lane Pale Ale , Toxteth IPA and Tzatziki Sour were its most famous beers. It was well known as being an innovative brewery that shook up the boundaries of what people thought was possible with beer.

The business employed six people and was based on Lightbody Street in the city centre.

Jason Greenhalgh, partner at Begbies Traynor in Liverpool, has been approached to assist with the winding up and selling off the assets.

He said: “The company began to experience financial difficulties in 2017 due to unforeseen costs associated with it’s premises move. The owner of the business decided, after every effort to save the business as a going concern, that it was necessary to appoint liquidators.

“Sue Staring, the owner, is saddened to see the business close after many successful years, but is proud of how the business grew from such humble origins.”
