Driftwood SparsDriftwood Spars’ Beer Festival of Two Halves is the latest in a number of good pub beer festivals I’ve been to this year, and all the better because a bit of thought’s gone into it.

There are 14 beers altogether, all from outside Cornwall, organised into two ‘teams’ of seven, each with one beer from categories comprising: single-hop, copper session, amber golden, IPA, porter, American IPA and new season beers. They are pitted against each other and you can score them, all in-keeping with the theme of Rugby World Cup Final weekend.

Being only able to visit for a short time today, i was only able to get stuck into half a dozen or so, with my top scores going to Wylam Brewery’s Dog Nobbler (3.8% ABV) and Leadmill Brewery’s Autumn Goddess (4.3%).

Among other beers on the menu are examples from Arbor, Blackjack, Moor, Bristol Beer Factory and Red Willow.

The festival runs until Sunday and is at the Driftwood Spars, Trevaunance Cove, St Agnes, Cornwall TR6 0RT.
