Innis Gunn Maple Thistle

Innis & Gunn is to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary, on July 1, with a limited-edition amber ale with the famous flavours of the two nations.

Maple & Thistle will be launched at parties hosted at the brand’s Beer Kitchens in Edinburgh and Glasgow, to celebrate Canada Day.

Barrel-aged Maple & Thistle is packed with flavour and aromas of toffee, vanilla, oak, citrus, smoky maple and orange oil, and is available exclusively from the Innis & Gunn online shop and in the Innis & Gunn Beer Kitchens.

Canada was the first international market for Innis & Gunn, when it began exporting its beers outside of the UK just two years after the business was founded in Edinburgh by Dougal Gunn Sharp.

Quickly growing a loyal fan base of beer drinkers, attracted by the rich flavour in its signature Original beer aged in whisky casks, Canada is now Innis & Gunn’s biggest export market, where six million bottles were sold in 2016, contributing almost a quarter to the total annual sales globally.

Dougal said: “We have an enthusiastic following amongst Canadian craft drinkers who love the rich flavour and quality in our beers, and we couldn’t let the Canada Day 150-year milestone pass without creating something special for our Canadian friends to enjoy, which I hope they will love. I also hope Canadians who are in Scotland on the occasion will join us in the Beer Kitchens to raise a toast together.”

In addition, on July 1, all Innis & Gunn Beer Kitchens are offering Canadian nationals and their friends a 15% discount on their food bill.

The Innis & Gunn Beer Kitchens in Edinburgh and Glasgow have been selected as two of only 150 bars in the UK to participate in the Official 150 Canada Birthday Celebrations, organised by the Canadian High Commission.

• Canada Day discount is only available for food ordered on Saturday, July 1, for those with valid proof of citizenship, driving licence or passport, at the Innis & Gunn Beer Kitchens in Edinburgh, Glasgow, St Andrews and Dundee.
