Chef Emily Scott (pictured) has taken the helm at North Cornwall’s St Tudy Inn following the recent retirement of the previous owners.

Emily ScottBefore embarking on her latest venture, she had successfully run The Harbour Restaurant in Port Isaac, which she sold to chef Nathan Outlaw in 2013. She will continue running her private catering business The Harbour Kitchen.

Emily said: “The St Tudy Inn had a reputation for consistently good food under its previous ownership. I am looking to build on this, but also to put my own stamp on the customer experience as a whole.

“I would like to create a lovely place to gather, a place to eat and drink in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with an ever-evolving menu that combines my passion for beautiful, seasonal food. I am lucky to have a young and enthusiastic team and we are working with some great producers and suppliers who are very supportive in what we are trying to achieve here.”

Her ethos is to source from the very best local suppliers, to gather the finest ingredients and combine them simply and instinctively. Suppliers include Padstow Kitchen Garden, Total Produce, Button Meats, Matthew Stevens and Fish for Thought for seafood, Deli Farm Charcuterie and Da Bara Bakery.

Emily’s passion for beautiful, seasonal food while using the best Cornish produce available is showcased in her menus. This approach is mirrored in the interiors with stripped back furnishings, simplified colour scheme and the addition of fresh flowers to the tables.

Guests can choose from pub classics such as steak and kidney pie or a burger, lemon sole with a herb dressing, and for vegetarians, a squash, chickpea, potato and vine tomato stew. At lunch a selection of lighter options, like Welsh rarebit or omelette, are also available. Sunday lunch includes choices like slow roasted lamb, or Sharp’s Doom Bar battered gurnard served with rustic chips, peas and tartare.

The pub layout with the old bar located at the heart of the building lends itself well to people dropping in for a pint and bar snacks, a selection of which are chalked up on the board and include pork pies and cheese straws. The weekly guest ales from breweries including Padstow Brewing Company and Harbour Brewing Company have been well received.

Lucie Billingsley, previously at The Bistro in Fowey, has joined the team as front of house manager and will also work closely with Emily on the events at St Tudy Inn. The pub quiz, live music nights and a meat raffle are continuing, with plans afoot to introduce more events to the pub’s calendar.
