Queens Head Troutbeck

The Queens Head pub, in Troutbeck, Cumbria, is to re-open, three years after being devastated by a huge fire.

Robinsons Brewery has announced that it will re-open the pub in April, following a £2 million investment and resulting in the creation of 30 new jobs.

Nestled on the side of the Lakeland fells overlooking the Troutbeck Valley, the Queens Head has welcomed weary travellers and visitors through its doors since the 17th century.

The new pub will feature a large drinking area alongside cosy and secluded dining areas, with a focus around three original fireplaces. The Queens Head’s iconic bar — which is a former four poster bed — has been restored and will continue to serve a range of real ales, craft beers, premium lagers, wines and award-winning spirits, with a focus on a new eye-catching gin range.

Renowned for serving some of the finest food in the area, the Queens Head’s new menu will feature a mixture of hearty classic pub food, created with provenance and served with flair. Portions of the menu were also created to include requests from old friends of the pub who contacted the Queens Head through Facebook to make sure their favourite dishes were included.

The pub will also feature ten newly-refurbished en-suite guest bedrooms named after iconic Lakeland fells, with four of the rooms being dog friendlys. Ahead of the relaunch, the Queens Head’s rooms are now available to book with prices starting from £110 per night, including a hearty breakfast.

William Robinson, managing director (pubs division) at Robinsons, said: “It’s no easy feat restoring such a historic pub. It was of the utmost importance that we worked closely with the local council to ensure the most authentic restoration of the original building’s fabric.

“The Queens Head has never been a case of ‘re-inventing the wheel’ and it will pick right up where it left off — [as] a cosy, family-friendly pub where you can enjoy a pint, a great night’s stay, and a warm, hearty meal. The outpouring of support from local residents and previous customers has been brilliant and we can’t wait to welcome them back to the Queens Head this April.”
