Innis & Gunn has launched its latest limited edition beer, Hopped Bourbon Cask Ale, an imperial red ale which has been dry hopped while maturing in bourbon casks. The barrel maturation adds extra depth and dimensions to the beer’s unique flavour.

Innis Gunn BourbonBrewed using an aromatic and eclectic blend of Ahtanum, Hallertau Hersbrucker and Super Styrian hops, the beer has a distinctive citrus flavour profile, with notes of Turkish delight, dried cherries and lychees also coming through.

The 7.4% ABV brew also combines a malt mix of pale ale, crystal, raw wheat and rye crystal, which add body and sweetness. The result is a balanced beer showcasing the flavours of floral hops.

Only 40,000 bottles of Hopped Bourbon Cask Ale have been made. It is available from Sainsbury’s stores nationwide, as well as Innis & Gunn’s Beer Kitchens in Edinburgh and Dundee, and the Innis & Gunn online shop

Innis and Gunn founder, Dougal Gunn Sharp, said: “One of the best things about brewing is discovering new flavours that emerge when experimenting with different hops. The distinct taste of Turkish delight really hit me and I knew instantly that we were onto a winner. I’m excited to share this with craft beer fans across the UK.

“The Hopped Bourbon Cask Ale is one of our first limited editions to be brewed at the new Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth, which is giving us the opportunity to experiment with flavours and brewing processes in a new way. This is the first time we’ve dry hopped one of our beers and I’m thrilled with the results. The Hopped Bourbon Cask Ale is just the start and we’ve already got some exciting ideas to brew next year.”
