driftwoodsparsThe Driftwood Spars, in St Agnes, Cornwall, has been named one of the best places in the world in which to enjoy a pint outside.

The accolade comes in the July edition of US magazine All About Beer, the oldest magazine for American beer enthusiasts, launched in 1978.

The article, entitled Great Beers in the Great Outdoors, list 80 of the best places to enjoy beer al fresco and was contributed to by a team of independent beer writers.

The Driftwood Spars is described as “an old fishermen’s inn with thick stone walls, blazing fires, and a large beer garden overlooking the rocks, the beach and the sea”.

The publication also praises the pub’s brewery and kitchen, saying: “Driftwood Spars has excellent food and its own microbrewery.  Its Aflie’s Revenge strong ale was named CAMRA’s champion winter beer of Britain in 2012.”

Driftwood Spars landlady, Louise Treseder, said: “We were really taken aback when we saw the article. We had no idea that we were even up for inclusion so it came totally out of the blue.

“We know that The Drifty is a great place to come for a pint, but Trevaunace Cove itself has to take some of the credit. We are blessed with incredible views over the sea from both the beer garden and terrace. It feels wrong to take all the glory for the pub. Our natural environment with its cliffs and surf surely is as much a part of the experience as our beer and food.”
