Deptford Craft Beer Feast

Hop Stuff Brewery is to host the second Deptford Craft Beer Feast, on August 26, showcasing 22 breweries in Deptford Market Yard. This follows the overwhelming success of the inaugural event in March.

From noon until 9pm, Deptford Market Yard will be buzzing with craft beer and street food — a feast of flavour and celebration of taste buds on a bank holiday Sunday.

Hop Stuff Brewery is playing host with 19 other breweries signed on so far, such as Brew By Numbers, Brick Brewery, Villages, Five Points, and Fourpure, as well as those travelling from as far as Kent (Boutilliers), Leeds (North Brew Co), Manchester (Seven Bro7hers) and Scotland (Edinburgh Beer Factory). The full list of breweries and street food vendors will be updated at www.deptfordcraftbeerfeast.com.

The popularity of the first event in March overwhelmed organisers. As a first-time event in the mild spring air, a crowd between 2 and 3,000 was expected. However, the Deptford Market Yard was flooded with an estimated 5 to 6,000 revellers across the day with more than 13,500 pints sold and 5,880 Eventbrite tickets registered. The organisers, Hop Stuff Brewery, have tripled facilities to manage the swarm of beer lovers this August.

Transport links

As well as free admission, the huge attendance was helped by ample transport links to the Deptford Market Yard. The venue is adjacent to Deptford Station (seven minutes from London Cannon Street / one stop from London Bridge), five minutes’ walk from New Cross Overground (16 minutes from Shoreditch High Street) and eight minutes from Deptford Bridge DLR station.

A scarce criticism was the long wait some patrons had for food. Compared to just four vendors in March, the August event will have five street food stands adding to the growing Market Yard offering of Taproom SE8 (sourdough pizza), Lomond, The Tapas Room, Mama’s Jerk, Dirty Apron, Mouse Tail, Hank’s Burgers & Beers, and Lil Nan’s.

Hop Stuff’s event organiser, Doug Gilbert, said: “We’re psyched to do it all again! Street food, craft beer, and dope tunes — easy peasy. Just a laid-back day, something for everyone and good vibes all round.”
