St Austell Cornish BestSt Austell Brewery visitor centre’s Nick Orton pours another pint to Cornish Best

St Austell Brewery’s newest core beer, Cornish Best, has got off to a flying starts with more than 400,000 pints sold in the first quarter of 2015.

The 3.5% ABV brew is a traditional, well-balanced bitter designed to have a wide appeal. It replaced Dartmoor Best when the latter title was handed over to Dartmoor Brewery in a deal last year. A significant proportion of sales of the new beer have been outside the South West heartland.

Crafted from British hops, Maris Otter barley and Cornish spring water, Cornish Best is an ale which bursts with rich malt, biscuit and a fruit character followed with a flint-dry finish, says the brewer.

Cornish Best’s performance mirrors the record sales that the brewery has experienced across all of its own-brand beers during the first quarter of 2015, with sales up 23% on last year.

Jeremy Mitchell, director of marketing and communications at St Austell Brewery, said: “We are delighted with the interest we’ve had in Cornish Best since we launched it in January, especially how well it has been received nationally. Our own research shows that the Cornish brand is very strong with consumers right across the UK, and this matches with our company values of a traditional family brewer producing the finest quality ales.

“It’s a winning formula and we’re delighted that beer drinkers across the country are enjoying the taste of the very best of Cornwall.”
