Chef Emily Scott and Padstow Brewing Company have joined forces to create a St Tudy Ale. Emily has worked closely with brewster Caron Archer to create an easy-drinking session beer which will be available at the St Tudy Inn both on draught and in bottles from mid-April.

Padstow has supplied the St Tudy Inn since it started brewing three years ago. When Emily took on the pub in December 2014, she continued to stock the brewery’s ales, which are very popular with her customers.

She said: “I really like what Caron and Des are doing at Padstow Brewing Company, and after several conversations the idea of a collaboration arose.

“The process of creating the beer has been a lot of fun. After asking my locals about what they like from a session beer, we have tried to create something we think they will like, and that will work well when drunk on its own but also when paired with food.”

Part of the requirement for the beer has been to develop a product that is easy to drink, but with plenty of flavour.

Caron said: “Creating St Tudy Ale has been very much a collaborative process. We chatted to Emily about what she was hoping to create and Des and I chose a selection of hops we thought might work well, and the final decision was made when Emily came to the brewery.

“St Tudy Ale has been made with three types of hop, and four types of malt — one in particular to give its aroma and copper colour. The result is a real session drinking ale, with citrus notes, that we believe will work in all seasons.”

Padstow Brewing Company produces craft beers using natural ingredients. It currently has a range of 10 beers, including a very popular wheat beer and limited edition Padstow May Day extra pale summer ale, to enjoy during the warmer weather. The beers will be available at the St Tudy Beer Festival taking place 28 to 30 May at St Tudy Inn.

The limited edition St Tudy Ale will be sold at St Tudy Inn and via Padstow Brewing Company, priced at £3.50 per pint or bottle, while stocks last.
