Carlsberg Tapster's guide

The 2017 edition of Carlsberg UK’s Tapster’s cask ale guide has been launched, featuring 82 British cask ales from major brewers and small craft producers, including premium bottled ales and bag-in-box cider.

Six new permanent brews have been added to the brochure, which this year includes more monthly deals and advice. The on-trade guide also highlights opportunities for licensees, advises on the right selection, identifies opportunities for growth, and tackles common problems or issues publicans may face, providing solutions and best practice tips.

New permanent brews for 2017 include Monty Python Holy Grail, from Black Sheep Brewery, Gem from Bath Ales, Bob from Wickwar, Guardsman from Windsor & Eton, Reedlighter from Woodforde’s and Peaky Blinder Pale Ale from Sadler’s.

Paul Waller, director of third party brands at Carlsberg UK, said: “Cask ale remains a huge opportunity for pubs, bars and restaurants as consumers continue to engage with the category and seek new brews to experiment with.

“Research shows that 92% of consumers want to know more about cask beer styles, with 60% claiming pubs do not currently offer sufficient tasting notes on the look, taste and smell of brews. This alone highlights the importance of cask ale education in the on-trade.

“This year’s Tapster’s guide has been designed to empower publicans with the knowledge and insight they need to execute a successful cask ale offering. We have listened to feedback and placed a greater emphasis on selecting and promoting a range that can be tailored to any venue.

“We’ve also increased our popular monthly deals, giving more control to on-trade premises to provide the choice and variety that we know consumers seek out — and serve it perfectly every time.”
