Members of CAMRA Kernow (the Cornwall branch of the Campaign for Real Ale) enjoyed a tour of West Cornwall pubs in blazing summer heat.

After a branch meeting and lunch at the Coldstreamer pub, in Gulval, they boarded a coach for a trip taking in pubs including the Engine Inn, Cripplesease, and the White Hart, Ludgvan.

Among the points which came up during the meeting, was the revelation that, out of a branch of more than 1,000 members, only 38 had actually bothered to vote in this year’s pub of the year competition.

As chairman, Bob Bunce, and pubs officer, Rod Davis, pointed out, members can’t really complain about the results (and some apparently have) if they are not voting. Quite, and the low turnout also means that a lot of pubs worthy of an award are simply not even going forward for judging.
