CAMRA members from across the South West will be descending on Dawlish, in South Devon, on Saturday (September 6) to celebrate the re-opening of the railway line which winds its way along the coast there.

dawlishontrack0914When the line was closed, following severe winter storms, local businesses, including pubs, suffered badly. Now the campaigners want to make sure the world knows the area is open for business again, and that the pubs particularly are well worth investigating.

To mark the occasion, Dartmoor Brewery has produced a special beer, Dawlish — On Track, which will be available in local hostelries.

Gareth MacDonald, regional director for CAMRA in the South West, said: “We are particularly delighted that Dartmoor Brewery has agreed to dedicate a special brew in honour of this event. This beer, called Dawlish — On Track will be available for sale in a few local pubs, although we have hopes that it will travel further afield over the coming weeks.

“I am very grateful to Dartmoor Brewery for their hard work and support of this excellent cause and look forward to trying my first pint on the day in Dawlish.”

Dartmoor head brewer, Mike Lunney, added: “Dawlish — On Track is a delightful, deep-bodied golden beer inspired by the golden age of steam and beautiful sands of the Dawlish Coast. At 5% ABV, it has a well-rounded rich flavour with a slightly sweet and spicy aftertaste, finishing with a subtle hop aroma to keep you right ‘on track’.”

The day will celebrate local pubs and highlight their role in supporting local communities. Gareth hopes others will also join his members (from around 11am at Dawlish railway station) to show that CAMRA is about campaigning for a great cause and having fun at the same time.
