Two MPs who champion Britain’s pub industry were honoured this week with Parliamentary Achievement Awards, at CAMRA’s annual Parliamentary reception at Westminster.

These annual awards recognise the role of MPs in supporting Britain’s beer or pubs industry, through their hard work in parliament and in their constituencies.

This year, the awards go to both Charlotte Leslie, MP for Bristol North West, and Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West.

Charlotte has been at the forefront of campaigning to ensure that local people can have a meaningful say before their valued local pubs are lost. This CAMRA award recognised her work in and out of Parliament in supporting pubs registered as assets of community value, which has helped communities have a greater say about the future of their local.

Greg Mulholland received his CAMRA award for his campaigning over many years to secure a fair deal for tied pub tenants and local pubs. He has played a valuable role in his chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Save the Pub Group, as well as being the coordinator of the Fair Deal for your Local campaign, working for a fairer relationship between pub companies and their tenants. The Government’s decision to introduce a pubs code and adjudicator later this year has been a great outcome for this campaign.

CAMRA chairman, Colin Valentine, said: “Charlotte’s work in the House of Commons has played a vital role in ensuring that pubs listed as assets of community value in England now have full planning protection, and the award is fully deserved. Let’s hope that the Government now see fit to extend this planning protection to all pubs in England.

“Greg has been a tireless campaigner to ensure that tenants of the large pub-owning companies in England and Wales have a right to a market rent only option when their lease is up for renewal and the fact that it is now enshrined in law is a testament to his dogged determination over many years.”
