Magpie Brewery
Right next to the Notts County football ground, the Magpie Brewery opened in 2006. The original partners in the business were retired teacher Nick Sewter and former ACAS workers Bob Douglas and Ken Morrison. Mauldons
The Mauldons brewery name goes back to 1795 in Sudbury, and although the original business was sold to Greene King in 1960, the name was revived by Peter Mauldon in 1981 as the cask ale revival was getting fully under way. Argentine Julio Moncada established his Notting Hill brewery in autumn 2011 when at a career crossroads, Intending to open a deli, he went off in the brewing direction instead, just at the moment when the London microbrewing scene was starting to explode. Moor Beer Co
The self-proclaimed leader of “Britain’s unfined ‘natural’ beer movement”, Justin Hawke is seen by many as having an uphill struggle to get UK drinkers to accept beer that isn’t crystal clear. The proof, however, is in the tasting, and I’ve had some excellent Moor brews that are, well, very ‘Moorish’. Moorhouse’s
Moorhouse’s has won CAMRA’s champion beer of Britain competition for Black Cat (3.4% ABV) and it also took gold in the standard strength cask-conditioned ale category of the Brewing Industry International Awards (BIIA) 2011. Founder William Moorhouse established his drinks manufacturing business in Accrington Road, Burnley, in 1865.
