Music in the Gardens

One of the North’s largest open air music concerts has teamed up with a Sheffield brewery to bring a mini-beer festival to the four-day music extravaganza, celebrating a double anniversary.

Music in the Gardens, organised by the Rotary clubs of South Yorkshire, returns to Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens from June 29 to July 2 and will see iconic bands, including The Zombies and 10cc, take to the stage.

There will also be as the UK’s most successful Beatles tribute band, The Bootleg Beatles, and Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra, who will be treating attendees to a Night at the Movies, complete with Proms and fireworks on the final day of the festival.

To celebrate its 12th anniversary, festival organisers have teamed up with Sheffield’s Bradfield Brewery, who also celebrate their 12th anniversary in 2017, to combine bands with beer and host a mini-beer festival.

A special Music in the Gardens pale ale named Golden Cog, brewed by Bradfield, will be available exclusively at the festival. Golden Cog is a full-bodied, distinctive fruity pale ale, which is well balanced with powerful floral notes and a predominately dry aftertaste.

Alongside the limited edition ale, Bradfield Brewery’s popular Farmer’s range will also be available, including Brown Cow, Pale Ale and Stout, as well as seasonal specials. For non-ale drinkers, a range of wines, spirits and Pimms can also be purchased at the Bradfield Brewery bar.

As well as the mini beer festival, a selection of local caterers, including Sheffield based ice cream creators Our Cow Molly, the Rotherham Hog Roast Company and Whirlow Hall Farm Trust, will be providing hot and cold tasty treats across the festival.

Fresh, local produce

Phil Sherriff, Music in the Gardens organiser, said: “Music in the Gardens is now in its 12th year and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than teaming up with a local brewery, also celebrating its 12th year in business, to bring a mini-beer festival to the event.

“We first started working with Bradfield Brewery five years ago to offer a real ale selection to those attending the festival, but since then the food and drink offering for Music in the Gardens has really grown, so much so that this year we wanted to turn a small drink offering into a mini-festival within a festival.

“When most people think of the food and drink offerings at festivals they are reminded of small portions at extortionate prices, but we have teamed up with some great local food and drink providers to offer fresh, local produce at sensible prices.”

Josie Gill, director of Bradfield Brewery, added: “To mark both the twelfth anniversary of Bradfield and Music in the Gardens, we are producing and unveiling a special [Music in the Gardens] Blonde, available at the festival.

“Once again we are thrilled to be supporting Music in the Gardens. Each year they bring a selection of musical greats to the people of Sheffield in the beautiful surroundings of Botanical Gardens, donating money raised from the festival to worthy local charities and good causes.”
