James Blake and Trisha Baldwin, hosts at the Bell by the Green, Devizes

The Bell by the Green pub in Devizes, Wiltshire, has received a £150,000 makeover by owner Wadworth to turn it into a sports pub and bar.

The pub is close to Devizes town centre and sits on the main Estcourt Street, near Morrisons supermarket and opposite the Devizes Green and The Crammer. The refurbished pub has a new open-plan area, with the bar being moved and seven large screens and two pool tables installed in the pub and bar area as well as the function room.

Wood and tile flooring features throughout the pub, with fresh décor and soft furnishings. The toilets are new and the external courtyard has an addition of a smoking shelter.

Live sport fixtures can be seen via Sky and BT Sports, and the function room has also been redecorated ready for private parties and celebrations.

Community

The pub will be central to the community and continue to host its skittles, darts and pool teams. The newly refurbished kitchen has enabled the pub to now offer a new bar menu with burgers, hot dogs and pizzas. A gin menu has also been created.

Operations director for tenanted trade at Wadworth, Lloyd Stephens, said: “This is great investment by Wadworth in our home town. The Bell by the Green is in such a central location, which means that this area of the town will really benefit from the added facilities now provided at the pub.”

The pub officially re-opens to the public today (March 8) from 8pm, with a live band, football freestyle displays and footpool competition. The pub will show the Six Nations matches on Saturday and Sunday as its first live sport fixtures.
